A 48-year-old man is facing murder charges after being found in a hotel room with his dead wife. According to The Orange County Register, the fatal incident occurred at the Staybridge Suites hotel on South Manchester Avenue in Anaheim. Officers arrived at the scene after the couple failed to check out of the hotel. The man was found with a significant abdominal injury and the woman had already succumbed to her injuries. The husband was arrested on suspicion of murder as well as an enhancement for the personal use of a deadly weapon, as a knife was allegedly used in the incident.
California Penal Code 187 defines murder as killing a human being with “malice aforethought.” This means that the defendant was either trying to deliberately kill the victim or that the he or she was acting with a “wanton disregard for human life.” A conviction can result in life in prison without parole, but some may be punishable by death.
